Logan Peterson from Lake Lillian, Minn. has committed to wrestle at South Dakota State University next fall. He is anticipated to compete at 165 or 174 pounds.
The University of Minnesota tapped into the Keystone State to land the verbal commitment of two-time state champion Ethan Lizak (Parkland, Pa.) on Monday. Lizak, ranked No. 61 overall in the Class of 2014, has won state titles at 106 and 113 pounds the last two years going a combined 87-3 in that time. When added to a 33-10 season, in which he finished second in the state at 103 pounds, Lizak has amassed a career record of 120-13.
During the last two off-seasons, Lizak has been highly productive in freestyle, finishing third in Junior freestyle during the summer of 2012 and then representing the United States at 50 kilos (110 pounds) on the FILA Junior World freestyle team this past summer. He projects as a 125 pound wrestler for the Golden Gophers, and will join No. 23 Tommy Thorn (St. Michael-Albertville, Minn.) and Nathan Rose (Sibley East, Minn.) as top 100 commits in the Class of 2014. Two-time state champion Seth Gross of Apple Valley has committed to attend the University of Iowa and wrestle for the Hawkeyes following his senior season.
Wrestling USA Magazine has ranked St. Cloud State University’s 2013-14 recruit class as the second best among the nation’s non-Division I recruiting classes. SCSU ranked first in the poll among Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools, as Minnesota State Mankato was ranked 15th in the poll.
“To receive this type of recognition is always an honor for our program,” SCSU coach Steve Costanzo said.
