2019 Cadet world-teamer Ryan Sokol decommits from Iowa wrestling, re-opens recruitment

Minnesota prep Ryan Sokol made waves last October when he became the nation’s first 2021 wrestler to announce his college decision. At the time, he gave his pledge to Tom Brands and the Iowa wrestling program.

On Monday, Sokol informed the Des Moines Register that he has decided to decommit from the Hawkeyes and re-open his recruitment.

“It was a hard choice,” Sokol wrote in a text message to the Register. “The Iowa community was great to me. I just wanted to open up my recruitment a bit and see what’s out there.” Continue reading at www.hawkcentral.com

Sokol goes 1-1 at Cadet World Championships

Simley wrestler Ryan Sokol went 1-1 at the UWW Cadet World Championships on July 29th in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Sokol, who wrestled Freestyle at 65 kg (143.3 lbs.), defeated Ionut Vintila of Moldova 10-0 in the round of 32. He then lost to Davit Patsinashvili of Georgia 12-0 in the Round of 16. Sokol was eliminated from competition when Patsinashvili lost in the semifinals.
