Johnnie Wrestling Faces Concordia Friday in Moorhead

The Johnnie wrestling team travels to Moorhead to face Concordia for a 7 p.m. dual Friday, Jan. 31.

Saint John’s (1-4 dual record) hosted two events last weekend (Jan. 24-25) in Sexton Arena. The Johnnies suffered a 38-9 loss to Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday night and hosted their annual North Country Open Saturday. The Blugolds took advantage of a forfeit at 125 pounds and recorded four bonus-point wins, including three pins, in the victory.

Senior Noah Becker (Browerville, Minn.), who is ranked as high as No. 3 nationally by D3wrestle.com at 133 pounds, posted a first-period pin (2:25). Becker continued his winning ways the following day at the North Country Open with two victories, a pin in 26 seconds and a 10-5 decision over Kyle Burwick from Division I Wisconsin, before exiting the tournament.

The latest 2020 NCAA wrestling award standings

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA has released updated standings for the 2020 NCAA Wrestling Awards that will be awarded in March at the respective Division I, II and III Wrestling Championships.

The inaugural NCAA Wrestling Awards were presented at the 2012 wrestling championships. The three awards, given in each division, honor the Most Dominant Wrestler as well as the student-athletes that have accumulated the most falls and the most technical falls throughout the course of the regular and postseasons.

For falls and tech falls to be counted for the awards they must come against opponents in the same division (i.e. Division II vs. Division II). Ties in the two categories are broken based on the aggregate time.

Becker Improves to 15-1 at North Country Open

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John’s wrestling hosted its annual North Country Open on Saturday, Jan. 25, in Sexton Arena.

The tournament featured 143 wrestlers, split into gold and silver divisions, and included wrestlers from Augsburg, Division II Augustana (S.D.), Division I Minnesota, Division II MSU-Mankato, NAIA Morningside, Division I North Dakota State, Northland C.C., Division II St. Cloud State, Division II Southwest Minnesota State, St. Olaf and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
