NCAA announces at-large selections for Division I Wrestling Championship

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA announced the 45 at-large selections for the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

The wrestlers, listed in alphabetical order by weight class, join the 285 student-athletes that qualified automatically through their conference tournament finishes last weekend. The at-large selections were made by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee using the following selection criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, results against common opponents, winning percentage, rating percentage index, coaches ranking and conference tournament finish.

Pohlmeyer places fifth at Big 12 championship

TULSA, Okla. – Henry Pohlmeyer finished fifth in the 149-pound division Sunday to lead the South Dakota State University wrestling team on the final day of the 2019 Big 12 Conference Wrestling Championship at BOK Center.

A junior from Johnston, Iowa, Pohlmeyer dropped a 4-1 decision to fourth-seeded Christian Monserrat of West Virginia in the consolation semifinals. The wrestlers were tied at 1-all going into the third period, when Monserrat recorded the lone takedown of the match late in the period and picked up an additional point for a minute of riding time.

Jackrabbits complete Day 1 of Big 12 Championship

TULSA, Okla. – Henry Pohlmeyer’s bid to reach the finals of the 149-pound weight class at the 2019 Big 12 Conference Wrestling Championship came up short Saturday night during competition at BOK Center.

A junior from Johnston, Iowa, Pohlmeyer dropped an 8-3 decision to third-seeded Jarrett Degen of Iowa State. Pohlmeyer, 20-12 overall, will wrestle at noon Sunday in the consolation semifinals versus fourth-seeded Christian Monserrat of West Virginia.

After receiving a first-round bye, the seventh-seeded Pohlmeyer recorded a 5-4 decision over second-seeded Max Thomsen of Northern Iowa in the quarterfinals during the opening session Saturday morning. It was Pohlmeyer’s second win over Thomsen this season.

Pohlmeyer pulls upset to reach semifinals

TULSA, Okla. – Henry Pohlmeyer advanced to Saturday night’s semifinals in the 149-pound weight class to highlight the opening session of the 2019 Big 12 Conference Wrestling Championship for the South Dakota State University wrestling team at BOK Center.

After receiving a first-round bye, the seventh-seeded Pohlmeyer recorded a 5-4 decision over second-seeded Max Thomsen of Northern Iowa in the quarterfinals. It was Pohlmeyer’s second win over Thomsen this season and upped his overall record to 20-11.

Big 12 Championship next for Jackrabbits

The South Dakota State University wrestling team will turn its attention to postseason competition, traveling this weekend to the Big 12 Conference Wrestling Championship.

The two-day event runs Saturday and Sunday at BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Full-mat video coverage and results will be available through FloWrestling.org (subscription required).
