No. 3 Minnesota Finishes Southern Scuffle in Fourth Place
Penn State takes tournament title with 178.5 team points
Wrapping up the final day at the 2012 Southern Scuffle, the No. 3 Golden Gopher wrestling team finished in fourth place with 139.5 total team points. For the second year in a row, Penn State captured the Scuffle title in Chattanooga, Tenn., gathering 178.5 points on the day. The next closest team was Oklahoma State who tallied 158.0 points. Missouri finished just head of the Gophers with 147.5 points.
SDSU’s Walraven places eighth at the Southern Scuffle
South Dakota State’s Dustin Walraven continued his trek through the 149-pound weight class at the Southern Scuffle with another win. Walraven won 2-1 in tie breaker – 1 versus Thomas Gantt (North Carolina State). After riding out the second overtime period, Walraven scored an escape to advance to the consolation quarterfinals.

In its first action of the new year, the No. 3 Minnesota Wrestling team currently sits in second place after the first day of competition at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. The team finished the day with 94.0 team points, trailing only Penn State who finished with 102.0 points on the day.

The South Dakota State wrestling team took its talents to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the highly competitive Southern Scuffle.
In addition to SDSU, 22 other schools sent participants to this year’s Southern Scuffle. Of those 23, eight were ranked in the InterMat NCAA Division I tournament-strength rankings, the highest being top-ranked Penn State.
