Murphy Named NSIC Wrestler of the Week

Murphy earned a pair of ranked victories to lead the Huskies to NSIC title

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State Wrestling redshirt senior 197-pounder Dominic Murphy (Evergreen Park, Ill.) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Wrestler of the Week, as announced on Monday. Murphy defeated two ranked opponents while helping lead the Huskies to the NSIC regular season conference championship.

Murphy is the third Husky to be named NSIC Wrestler of the Week this season after junior 157-pounder Nick Novak (New Prague, Minn.) won the weekly honor on Jan. 29 and redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Alyeus Craig (Wichita, Kan.) won the honor on Feb. 12.

Bronchos hold top spot in DII Men’s Coaches Poll heading into postseason

MANHEIM, Pa. – Heading into the 2024 postseason, the Central Oklahoma Bronchos are still the top team in NCAA Division II men’s wrestling, according to the latest edition of the National Wrestling Coaches Association DII Men’s poll, released Monday afternoon.

UCO topped the poll with 87 total points behind a poll-high eight ranked wrestlers. The Bronchos, along with #2 Lander, also feature a poll-high two top-ranked wrestlers in defending National Champions Dalton Abney at 197 and Shawn Streck at 285. Lander comes in at #2 with 80 total points and seven ranked wrestlers, highlighted by James Joplin (125) and David Hunsberger (165) at #1 in their respective weight classes.

Augustana made the jump from #14 to #3 in this edition of the poll, amassing 67 total points behind seven ranked individuals. St. Cloud State is in the four-spot with 57 points, with UW-Parkside and McKendree tied in the fifth spot with 48 team points each.

St. Cloud State Clinches NSIC Championship with Win over U Mary

Huskies clinch 12th NSIC title in the last 13 seasons, finishes dual season 14-1 and 9-0 in NSIC duals

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling (14-1, 9-0 NSIC) erased a 10-0 deficit after three matches to come back and defeat No. 13 U Mary (11-5, 6-3 NSIC), 23-13, on Sunday afternoon at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud. With the win, SCSU closed out its conference dual schedule with a perfect 9-0 mark to clinch a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Regular Season Championship, its 12th NSIC title in the last 13 seasons.

In addition to its 12th conference title in the last 13 seasons, the Huskies won their 17th overall conference championship in program history and recorded its 12th undefeated conference record in dual competition under head coach Steve Costanzo. SCSU is now 19-0 all-time against UMary, winning every dual since its first match on Feb. 16, 2007.

Huskies beat Vikings for 13th consecutive time, stands one win away from conference title

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling (13-1, 8-0 NSIC) won nine of 10 bouts to earn a 29-6 win over No. 14 Augustana (13-6, 7-2 NSIC) on Friday night in Sioux Falls. Junior 157-pounder Nick Novak (New Prague, Minn.) earned the lone win by bonus points for the Huskies, recording a technical fall in his victory.

With the win, SCSU will now wrestle for an NSIC regular season championship on Sunday against No. 13 UMary. A win would be SCSU’s 12th NSIC regular season championship in the last 13 seasons and 17th overall conference title. It would also mark the 12th undefeated conference record for the Huskies under head coach Steve Costanzo. The Huskies have won 104 of its last 105 conference duals dating back to Jan. 30, 2011, with its only loss coming last season to UW-Parkside, a 20-19 loss by criteria on Jan. 12, 2023. SCSU is now 27-19 all-time against Augustana but has won 13 consecutive matches in the series dating back to Jan. 27, 2012, a 26-9 win in St. Cloud.

No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling Closes Regular Season with No. 14 Augustana and No. 13 UMary

Huskies can clinch 12th NSIC title in 13 seasons with wins in both duals

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling (12-1, 7-0 NSIC) will finish its regular season this weekend with a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference duals (NSIC) this weekend. First, the Huskies will travel south to Sioux Falls, S.D., to face No. 14 Augustana (13-5, 7-1 NSIC) on Friday, Feb. 16, before returning home for its regular-season finale against No. 13 UMary (10-4, 5-2 NSIC) on Sunday, Feb. 18.

Friday’s dual is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. CT while Sunday’s dual will begin at 2:00 p.m. CT at Halenbeck Hall.

Both duals will be streamed for free on the NSIC Network, with live results available through TrackWrestling.

Craig defeated No. 2-ranked Cayden Henschel to help the Huskies beat No. 4 Parkside, 27-6, on Saturday.

Craig is the second Husky to be named NSIC Wrestler of the Week this season after junior 157-pounder Nick Novak (New Prague, Minn.) won the weekly honor on Jan. 29.

No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling Grabs Control of NSIC with 27-6 Victory over No. 4 Parkside

Meekins and Craig power Huskies to dominant win over previously undefeated Rangers

KENOSHA, Wis. – No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling (12-1, 7-0 NSIC) completely dominated No. 4 Parkside (9-1, 7-1 NSIC) and moved into first place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) standings with a 27-6 win on Saturday afternoon in Kenosha, Wis. The Huskies won eight of 10 matches in the dual, including two of three bouts in ranked vs. ranked matches. Redshirt senior 133-pounder Caleb Meekins (Livonia, Mich.) and redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Alyeus Craig (Wichita, Kan.) provided the momentum SCSU needed to grab control of the dual with back-to-back upsets right before intermission.

With the win, SCSU now sits in sole possession of first place in the NSIC standings at 7-0, ahead of Parkside (7-1) and Augustana (6-1). The Huskies now have two regular season duals remaining as they hunt for their 12th NSIC regular season championship under head coach Steve Costanzo and 16th overall regular season conference title. SCSU is now 10-2-1 all-time against Parkside, avenging its 20-19 loss by criteria on Jan. 12, 2023, which snapped SCSU’s 53-match home win streak and 88-match NSIC win streak.
