Wrestling award winners crowned at NCAA championships

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA presented the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Awards to eight student-athletes at the Divisions I, II and III Wrestling Championships over the last two weekends.

The inaugural NCAA Wrestling Awards were presented at the 2012 wrestling championships. The three awards, given in each division, honor the Most Dominant Wrestler as well as the student-athletes that have accumulated the most falls and the most technical falls throughout the course of the regular and postseasons.

For results to be counted for the awards they must come against opponents in the same division (i.e. Division II vs. Division II). Ties in the falls and tech falls categories are broken based on the aggregate time.

St. Cloud State Places 8 Wrestlers on NSIC Winter All-Academic List

Donovan and Vos earn Team of Excellence recognition

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State had eight wrestlers earn All-Academic honors from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference for the winter season, it was announced on Wednesday.

Devin Donovan and Garrett Vos were named to the NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence, which recognizes individuals with a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 or higher.

St. Cloud State takes fourth place at 2022 NCAA championships

St. Cloud State University wrestling completed its 2021-22 season with a fourth-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Division II championships, which were held at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis on March 11-12.

The three-time defending national champions in 2018, 2019, and 2021, St. Cloud State charted 67.0 points to place fourth, while Nebraska Kearney won the team title this year with 127.0 points. Central Oklahoma (86.0 points) and West Liberty (75.5 points) rounded out the top four finishers and Adams State was fifth with 65.0 points.

A perennial national powerhouse in NCAA Division II wrestling, St. Cloud State has won NCAA team titles in 2021, 2019, 2018, 2016, and 2015. The Huskies have also posted nine top-five team finishes at the NCAA tournament since 2011 under the direction of head coach Steve Costanzo.

St. Cloud State wraps up first day of action at 2022 NCAA tourney

The #3 St. Cloud State University wrestling team completed its first day of competition at the 2022 NCAA Division II championships on Friday, March 11. The tourney is being held this weekend at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis and the final round of action will take place on Saturday, March 12.

After the first day of matches, the three-time defending national champion Huskies rank third in the team standings with 42.5 points, while Nebraska Kearney is first with 67.5 points and Central Oklahoma is second with 52.0 points. SCSU advanced four wrestlers in the championship round and five SCSU qualifiers have advanced to matches on Saturday.
