NWCA Releases Final NCAA Division II Men’s Rankings

MANHEIM, Pa. – With the NCAA Division II National Championships coming for 50 of NCAA DII’s 64 teams, the top two ranked teams in the NWCA Division II Coaches Rankings stayed the same. Central Oklahoma held the top spot heading into the season’s final event in the rankings compiled from the DII ranking committee’s seeding released Friday afternoon.

The Bronchos, fresh off of a team win at the Super Region 4 Championships, have a DII-best 10 Nationa Qualifiers, with nine seeded in the top 8 and another at #9 for all 10 UCO starters adding to the 104 points amassed by the top vote-getters. Lander (84 points), who won the Super Region 2 championship last week, holds at #2 after qualifying nine wrestlers, seven of which are seeded in the top 8 for next weekend’s National Championships. St. Cloud State and UW-Parkside both totaled 67 points to tie for the third-place spot, with Adams State rounding out the top 5 with 61 total points.

SCSU: Initial brackets released for NCAA DII National Wrestling Championships

Romero top seed at 174, N. Novak No. 2 at 157, Murphy (197) and Bianchini (149) earn No. 4 seeds

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Four of the six St. Cloud State Wrestling national qualifiers are seeded as the NCAA released their initial National Championships brackets on Friday afternoon. Abner Romero earned the top seed at 174 pounds, Nick Novak will enter as the No. 2 seed at 157 while both 149-pounder Joey Bianchini and 197-pounder Dominic Murphy picked up No. 4 seeds.

The brackets will not be final until Tuesday, March 7 at noon EST with the 2023 NCAA DII Wrestling Championships scheduled to begin on Friday, March 10.

No. 3 Huskies capture seventh consecutive Super Region Title

St. Cloud State advances six to NCAA DII National Championships, five Huskies crowned Super Region Champions

ABERDEEN, S.D. – No. 3 St. Cloud State Wrestling earned their seventh consecutive NCAA Super Region Championship while qualifying six wrestlers – five of which are Super Region Champions – for the upcoming NCAA Tournament in Cedar Rapids. The 2023 Super Region title is the program’s 10th earned under the direction of head coach Steve Costanzo.

Joey Bianchini became the program’s second four-time Region/Conference Champion by earning the title at 149 pounds after winning the 141-pound championship each of the past four years – joining Brett Velasquez as the only two Huskies to earn the illustrious honor. 174-pounder Abner Romero claimed his third career Super Region Championship and first in Super Region V while true sophomore Nick Novak became a two-time Super Region V Champion with the title at 157 pounds. Dominic Murphy and Caleb Meekins each earned their first career Super Region V titles at 197 and 133, respectively while Anthony Herrera clinched his second straight NCAA Tournament berth with a runner-up finish at 165 pounds.

No. 3 St. Cloud State readies for NCAA Super Region V Tournament

Huskies hunt for seventh straight NCAA Regional Championship

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 3 St. Cloud State Wrestling begins the 2023 postseason with the NCAA Super Region V Tournament on Saturday, February 25 at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Session I is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. CT with the Placement Matches set for 1:00 p.m. CT.

The top three placers at each weight will advance to the 2023 NCAA Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. SCSU has advanced at least seven wrestlers to the National Tournament each year dating back to 2015-16 and have sent at least six in 15 of head coach Steve Costanzo’s 16 years at the helm. The Huskies have won six straight Super Region V Championships and nine total under Costanzo’s watch, placing top-two in 13 of the past 14 tournaments.
