The #1 St. Cloud State University wrestling team (15-0, 7-0 NSIC) will complete its 2019-20 regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 19 with a home match against NSIC rival Augustana University (10-3, 6-1 NSIC). The match at SCSU’s Halenbeck Hall is slated for 7:00 p.m. and tickets are available at the gate on the night of the match. All SCSU students get in FREE to this match.
The evening will also include a salute to the 2019-20 SCSU seniors. This group of three seniors includes Kolton Eischens (Pierz, Minn.), Tyree Overton (Rock Island, Ill.) and James Pleski (Stacy, Minn.).
#1 St. Cloud State clinches 9th consecutive NSIC wrestling championship
The #1 St. Cloud State University wrestling team (15-0, 7-0 NSIC) continued its amazing string of success by clinching at least a share of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship for the ninth consecutive season thanks to a 29-9 victory over #10 Upper Iowa (12-5, 5-3 NSIC) on Thursday, Feb. 13 at SCSU’s Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, Minn.
SCSU has now claimed NSIC titles in 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 and 2012. The last loss for the Huskies in NSIC competition was an 18-13 loss to Augustana on Jan. 27, 2011 and the Huskies can claim the NSIC title outright with a victory over the Vikings in the regular-season finale on Feb. 19 in Halenbeck Hall. Both Augustana and Minnesota State currently own 5-1 conference records.

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State wrestling team (14-0, 6-0 NSIC) will continue its 2019-20 season with a home bout on Thursday, Feb. 13 against #10 ranked Upper Iowa University (12-4, 5-2 NSIC). The match will be held in Halenbeck Hall and the action will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The match against Upper Iowa has also been designated as Prep/Youth Night with all kids in grades 12 and under being admitted to the match for just $1.00. This is a great opportunity to introduce a youngster to the sport of college wrestling and a chance to see two top 10 ranked NCAA DII programs match up against each other. These specially priced tickets can be purchased at the gate on the night of the match. SCSU wrestling to host Western Colorado on Jan. 5
The #1 St. Cloud State University wrestling team (5-0, 2-0 NSIC) opened 2020 as the nation’s number one ranked NCAA Division II wrestling team. The Huskies received 111 points to maintain their top spot in the NWCA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association poll, which was released on Jan. 1.
The Huskies had nine individual wrestlers ranked in the latest DII poll and ranked 41 points ahead of #2 Pitt-Johnstown on the poll. The remainder of the poll’s top ten ranked NCAA DII teams includes Notre Dame of Ohio (67), Nebraska Kearney (57), McKendree (56), Central Oklahoma (49), Tiffin (45), Ashland (37), Upper Iowa (37) and Newberry (35). NSIC rivals Minnesota State (15th) and Northern State (17th) were also ranked in the poll this week.
St. Cloud State will continue its 2019-20 season with a non-conference match against #23 Western Colorado University at home on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. The match has been designated as SCSU Wrestling Alumni Day and all SCSU wrestling alumni are invited to return to campus for this match to meet up again with former teammates and watch the #1 nationally ranked Huskies battle Western Colorado that day.
St. Cloud State’s Joey Bianchini captured the top spot in the 141-pound bracket for the Huskies at the 2020 Don Parker Open, which was held in Eau Claire, Wisc. on Saturday, Feb. 8 on the campus of UW-Eau Claire.
Bianchini charted a perfect 4-0 record to earn the first place finish and won the title bout with a forfeit against David Flynn of Augsburg. Bianchini was one of several SCSU wrestlers who competed at the Don Parker Open.
