St. Cloud State wrestling rolls to 42-0 victory over SMSU
The #2 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team (4-0, 1-0 NSIC) opened its 2019 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season with a big 42-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State University on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in St. Cloud, Minn. at Halenbeck Hall.
Before a large Military Appreciation/Youth Night crowd, the Huskies dominated the match from start to finish as SCSU charted three falls on the night along with three major decisions to earn the league shutout.
The evening opened with a 16-3 major decision victory at 141-pounds by SCSU’s #11 Garrett Aldrich over SMSU’s Justin Sampson. In the second match of the night, #2 James Pleski posted a 5-2 decision win over Robert Shields of SMSU at 149-pounds.

Nov. 20 – Military Appreciation Night/Youth Night
The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (3-0, 0-0 NSIC) will open its 2019-20 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference dual match season on Wednesday, Nov. 20 with a 7:00 p.m. match against Southwest Minnesota State University. The match will take place in SCSU’s Halenbeck Hall and tickets may be purchased at the gate.
The match has been designated as Military Appreciation Night and Youth Night. As a show of appreciation to all those who serve and those who have served our country, St. Cloud State University will admit all active military and veterans along with a guest into the match for FREE. Just show your military ID and/or DD214 at the gate to receive this offer.
The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (3-0, 0-0 NSIC) traveled to the 2019 Finn Grinaker Open in Moorhead, Minn. on Nov. 16. SCSU post a strong showing in this open style meet with a pair of first-place finishes. No team scores were kept at this event and the meet was hosted by Concordia College-Moorhead.
SCSU Joey Bianchini scored a first-place finish in the 141-pound bracket with a 3-0 record. He brought home the title with a 10-3 win in the championship match against Kenny Jones of Northern State.

The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (3-0, 0-0 NSIC) will travel to the 2019 Finn Grinaker Open on Saturday, Nov. 16. The meet is being hosted on the campus of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn. and the action is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
The St. Cloud State University wrestling team will open its 2019-20 home schedule with a dual match against Southwest Minnesota State University at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20. The match in Halenbeck Hall has been designated as Military Appreciation/Youth Night.
As a way to salute all those who serve our nation through military service, all active military and veterans will be admitted to this key NSIC match for FREE. Just bring your valid military ID or DD214 to show at the gate on the night of this match.
St. Cloud State University sophomore Garrett Vos (Bonifacius, Minn./Waconia H.S.) has been selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 4-10.
In action at 133-pounds, Vos opened his 2019-20 season with a 2-0 record at the 2019 Journeymen Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. on Nov. 9. Vos carded an 11-6 win over No. 1 ranked Tyler Warner of Pitt-Johnstown to highlight his day. He also posted a 5:43 fall against Hayden Brown of Johnson & Wales, and received a forfeit win over American International in the first dual of the day for SCSU.
