Sloan honored by Big 12
IRVING, Texas — South Dakota State 197-pounder Tanner Sloan was honored Tuesday as Big 12 Wrestler of the Week.
A junior from Alburnett, Iowa, Sloan posted a 3-0 record in dual competition over the weekend, starting with a 5-2 decision over fifth-ranked Rocky Elam of Missouri. The victory helped propel the Jackrabbits to their first-ever dual win over a top-10 team at the Division I level.

Three Jacks named All-Americans by NWCA
MANHEIM, Pa. – Three South Dakota State University wrestlers were honored Friday as members of the 2020 Division I All-America Second Team by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, this year’s All-America honors were based on each wrestler’s overall body of work through conference tournaments.
Sloan honored by Big 12
IRVING, Texas – South Dakota State 197-pounder Tanner Sloan was honored Tuesday as Big 12 Conference Wrestler of the Week after helping lead the Jackrabbits to a pair of home dual victories.
A redshirt freshman from Alburnett, Iowa, Sloan opened the weekend with a 9-0 major decision over Fresno State’s Dominic Kincaid on Feb. 15. The next night, Sloan knocked off 13th-ranked Nathan Traxler of Stanford by a 7-2 decision.
Sloan departs for world championships
TALLINN, Estonia – South Dakota State’s Tanner Sloan is ready to take on the world.
The second-year Jackrabbit wrestler is scheduled to compete at the United World Wrestling Junior World Championships, which begin Monday. Sloan is slated to wrestle in the 97-kilogram weight class of the freestyle competition.
Sloan earned a spot on Team USA by winning the UWW Junior Freestyle World Team Trials in Raleigh, North Carolina, in May. In his first international competition a month later, Sloan won the gold medal at the UWW Pan American Championship in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
“I feel we like to hand-fight harder, wrestle harder than some of the foreign countries,” Sloan said. “I felt that when I was in Guatemala, so that was good experience before going over to worlds.”
