Turriff Named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

Austin, Tex. — Minnesota State senior wrestling national champion Trevor Turriff has been selected First Team Academic All-America® men’s at large by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The CoSIDA Academic All-America team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. In order to be nominated for this award, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.3 or higher and be a significant contributor to their team. After Academic All-District teams are announced, Academic All-America teams are voted on by sports information personnel from across the country.

Turriff Named 2021-22 Recipient of Don Buchanan Award

Mankato, Minn. — Following a vote of departmental coaches and staff, wrestler Trevor Turriff has been selected as the 2021-22 recipient of the Don Buchanan Award as Minnesota State’s most well-rounded senior male student-athlete.

A two-time All-American from De Pere, Wis., Turriff (174 lbs.) finished his senior season with a 21-3 record, including a 3-1 ledger in falls and a 6-0 mark in major decisions. Turriff advanced to his second NCAA championship match in as many seasons this year, where he defeated Andrew Sams of Indianapolis to claim the NCAA Championship.

Turriff named NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year for Wrestling

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Minnesota State’s Trevor Turriff was voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year in wrestling. A native of De Pere, Wisconsin, Turriff is a red-shirt senior majoring in business while holding a 3.79 cumulative grade point average.

The “NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year Award” is presented to an NSIC Wrestling student-athlete who participates at their institution for four years and is academically superior while making a positive contribution to their team and the University. The NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year award was initiated in 2020-21 to honor an outstanding senior that exemplifies the attributes of the model NSIC student-athlete.

Turriff Earns NSIC Elite 18 Award

Mankato, Minn. — Minnesota State’s Trevor Turriff was named the 2020-21 NSIC Elite 18 Award winner for wrestling.

Turriff joins Carah Drees (2021- WBB), Alex Goettl (2019 – FB), Amber Kral (2019 – SB), Maggie Knier (S&D 2017-18, 2018-19 & 2019-20) and Erica Ellstrom (S&D 2016-17) as NSIC Elite 18 Award winners from Minnesota State.

As part of the NSIC 25th Anniversary celebration, the NSIC Elite 18 Award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the NSIC Championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The NSIC Elite 18 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point from the regular season championship team or an All-NSIC performer.
