Women’s freestyle field set for 2018 Final X

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The field is set for Final X in Senior women’s freestyle after the women’s portion of the 2018 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament concluded with the best-of-three finals in Rochester, Minn., on Saturday afternoon.

As a result of the Challenge Tournament finals, fans are set to see six U.S. Open finals rematches in the Final X series, competing for a spot on the 2018 World Team.

Among those rematches are two battles between past World Team members.

At 50 kg, two-time World Team member Victoria Anthony advanced to Final X on Saturday and will face three-time World Team member and 2018 U.S. Open champion Whitney Conder in Bethlehem, Pa., on June 23. Steveson Earns Junior World Team Trials Final Bid

Rochester, Minn. – Two current and three incoming University of Minnesota wrestlers took part in the junior level of the World Team Trials on Friday, with Gable Steveson earning a bid to the best-of-three finals tomorrow afternoon.

Steveson earned technical superiority victories over all three of his opponents along the way to his challenge for the junior world team spot tomorrow. One of those coming against Trent Hillger, a Wisconsin redshirt in 2017-18. Steveson outscored his opponents 35-1 in his 3-0 day, including the 13-0 win over Hillger.

World Team Trials Come to Minnesota on Friday

Rochester, Minn. – Beginning on Friday at 10:00 a.m., the nation’s best freestyle wrestlers will take the mats at the RCTC Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minn. in pursuit of their World Championship Team dream.

There is a total of 11 Minnesota freestyle wrestlers who have qualified for the challenge tournament, with four of them being on the junior level and eight being on the senior level. Gable Steveson is set to compete in both junior and senior levels, which was announced last week during the 2018 Gopher Road Trip.

On the senior level, Carson Brolsma, Zach Sanders, Jayson Ness, Dylan Ness, Joe Rau, Hayden Zillmer, Tony Nelson and Steveson will compete after automatically qualifying at the U.S. Open just a few weeks ago.

Shilson, Shore and Kilty punch tickets to second Cadet World Championships

IRVING, Texas – The 2018 Women’s Nationals wrapped up on Sunday afternoon with the finals of the 2018 UWW women’s freestyle World Team Trials at the Irving Convention Center in Irving, Texas.

Among the many impressive storylines of the day was 2016 Cadet World bronze medalist Macey Kilty, who earned a spot on her second World Team of the weekend.

World champs Diaokomihalis and Steveson repeat, Bravo-Young breaks through at UWW Cadet Freestyle Nationals

Minnesota’s Gable Steveson and Aaron Cashman make Cadet World Team

AKRON, Ohio – Arizona sensation Roman Bravo-Young capped off a stellar performance at the 2016 UWW Cadet Nationals with two decisive wins over 2015 Cadet Freestyle Nationals champion Jordan Decatur in the 54 kg/119 lbs. championship series on Sunday.

After several close attempts, Bravo-Young, a two-time Arizona high school state champion, secured a berth on his first U.S. Cadet World Team. He opened the finals with a 13-2 technical fall of Decatur and iced the series with an 8-2 win over the Ohio standout. Continue reading at www.teamusa.org
