BURROUGHS GOING FOR GOLD! Lampe, Anthony going for bronze at World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Jordan Burroughs is back in the finals at the World Championships.

The 2011 World champion and 2012 Olympic gold medalist stormed into the finals of the 2013 World Wrestling Championships with a dominating first-session performance Wednesday at Papp Laszlo Sports Arena.

Dlagnev places fifth in men’s freestyle at World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Tervel Dlagnev’s quest for a second World medal came up short.

Dlagnev placed fifth at the World Wrestling Championships in freestyle wrestling at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. on Tuesday night at Papp Laszlo Sports Arena.

Dlagnev advances to bronze-medal match at World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Tervel Dlagnev is back in the bronze-medal match at the World Championships.

Dlagnev went 3-1 in the first session to gain a spot in the bronze bout in freestyle wrestling at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. on Tuesday at Papp Laszlo Sports Arena.

Dlagnev won his first three matches before falling to Ukraine’s Alen Zaseev 6-2 in the semifinals. Zaseev led 1-0 before shooting in for a takedown early in the second period and gaining additional exposure points to take control. Continue reading at www.themat.com

Escobedo places fifth on first day of World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Angel Escobedo gave a determined effort, but came up just short of winning a medal at the World Wrestling Championships.

Turkey’s Sezer Akgul shot in on a leg attack and finished for a second-period takedown en route to edging Escobedo 2-1 in their bronze-medal freestyle match on Monday night at Papp Laszlo Sports Arena. Continue reading at www.themat.com

Escobedo advances to bronze-medal match at World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – American Angel Escobedo has reached the bronze-medal match at the World Championships.

Escobedo went 3-1 in the first session as the seven-day World Championships kicked off on Monday afternoon at Papp Laszlo Sports Arena.

Escobedo will meet Turkey’s Sezer Akgul in the bronze bout in freestyle wrestling at 55 kg/121 lbs. on Monday night in Budapest. Akgul won a World silver medal in 2009, but lost to American Obe Blanc in the first round of the 2010 Worlds. Continue reading at www.themat.com

U.S. sends talented teams for the World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Sept. 16-22

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Only eight days after the International Olympic Committee selected wrestling as an additional sport for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games, the most important international wrestling event of the year is being held in Budapest, Hungary, the 2013 World Wrestling Championships.

Competition will begin Monday, September 16 and run through Sunday, September 22 at the Laszlo Papp Budapest Sportarena. Three weight classes will be contested each day.
