USA Wrestling to give free tickets to military and first responder families to its Senior World Team Trials in Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 11-12

During the weekend which marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attack on the United States, USA Wrestling will make a special invitation to one of its most important events to honor and recognize those who have served our great nation.

USA Wrestling will provide free tickets to the Senior World Team Trials, held at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 11-12, to military and first responders, as well as their immediate families.

This invitation covers both days of the competition, Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12.

Steveson declines World Team spot, so eight Olympic medalists will compete in Worlds in Oslo

World Team Trials in Lincoln to have 22 weight classes

Olympic champion Gable Steveson, who won his medal at 125 kg in men’s freestyle at the Tokyo Games, has notified USA Wrestling that he will not accept a position on the U.S. World Team that will compete at the 2021 Senior World Championships in Oslo, Norway, October 2-10.

According to the 2021 World Team Selection Procedures, “The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Medalist, if competing at the same weight class, will receive the automatic selection to the 2021 World Team at that same weight.”

The USA won nine medals at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan and eight of the medalists have accepted their spot on the 2021 U.S. Senior World Team: Olympic champion Tamyra Mensah Stock (68 kg in women’s freestyle), Olympic champion David Taylor (86 kg in men’s freestyle), Olympic silver medalist Adeline Gray (76 kg in women’s freestyle), Olympic silver medalist Kyle Snyder (97 kg in men’s freestyle), Olympic bronze medalist Helen Maroulis (57 kg in women’s freestyle), Olympic bronze medalist Kyle Dake (74 kg in men’s freestyle), Olympic bronze medalist Sarah Hildebrandt (50 kg in women’s freestyle) and Olympic bronze medalist Thomas Gilman (57 kg in men’s freestyle). 2018 Junior World Greco-Roman Team set during exciting Trials event in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The 2018 U.S. Junior World Greco-Roman team was determined at the World Team Trials event held on Friday.

Winners of the best-of-three Championship Series in the 10 international weight classes have earned the right to represent Team USA at the Junior World Championships in Trnava, Slovakia, Sept. 17-23.

Two of the 10 series went the full three matches. 2017 Cadet World Champion Cohlton Schultz lost the first match at 130 kg to Anthony Cassioppi, but powered back with a 7-7 win in bout two and an 8-4 win in bout three to take the series. Schultz was also a member of the 2017 Junior World Team, and earns a repeat trip.

Kerkvliet and Howard punch tickets to second-consecutive Cadet Worlds

AKRON, Ohio – Team USA’s Cadet World Team is completed after the Cadet Freestyle Trials wrapped up on Sunday afternoon with 10 talented, young athletes punching their tickets to the 2018 Cadet World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, July 2-8.

Highlighting the 2018 squad are returning World Team members Daniel Kerkvliet at 110 kg and Robert Howard at 55 kg.

Kerkvliet will head to Croatia to defend his World title from 2017. In Akron, he went unscored on, winning three shutout technical falls to advance to the finals. There, Kerkvliet continued his dominance with two quick wins over Hunter Catka.

Burks brothers and eight others make 2018 Cadet Greco World Team

As competition wrapped up in Akron for the Greco-Roman Cadets, the 2018 UWW Cadet World Team welcomed ten newcomers Friday to don the Red, White and Blue at the Cadet World Championships this summer in Zagreb, Croatia, July 2-8.

Four of the ten weights took to a third match to determine help determine the World Team, with two brothers bouncing back from second-round losses to secure their spots representing Team USA in Zagreb.

Jakason Burks took the lead in his series with Aizayah Yacapin with a close victory in the first round. Burks then avenged his loss in the second round with a 10-8 victory in the third round to solidify his spot at the 51 kg weight class.
