Sanders, Zillmer Prepped for Final X

Representing the state of Minnesota this weekend at Final X – Lehigh will be Hayden Zillmer and Zach Sanders, looking to secure Senior World Team spots for the first time in their careers.

Hayden Zillmer, a Minneapolis, Minn. native, will wrestle in the 92-kilogram best-of-three series against former Olympic bronze medalist J’den Cox. Current Assistant Coach Zach Sanders will wrestle for a true third place finish against Tony Ramos earlier in the day, which will all be shown on FloWrestling.

The true third place matches will take place at 5:00 p.m. at Grace Hall on the campus of Lehigh University on Saturday, June 23, with the main card beginning at 7:00 p.m. Continue reading at

The Mayo Civic Center Region I Wrestling Hall of Fame honored inductees and area teams and wrestlers this past weekend at the Southeastern Minnesota Wrestling Seniors Banquet in Rochester, Minn.

Sanders Takes Gold in Cuba

With the University of Minnesota wrestling team prepping for the Big Ten Championships in East Lansing, Mich., Volunteer Assistant Coach Zach Sanders along with Minnesota Storm wrestler Hayden Zillmer earned gold medals at Cerro Pelado, an open freestyle tournament, in Havana, Cuba.

Sanders, who was a four-time All-American for the Golden Gophers, finished the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record. He took down opponents from Canada, United State of America and Cuba.

Sanders would knock out the No. 3, No. 1, and No. 8 seed in the tournament to earn the gold medal.

Sanders named MWCA Mr. Minnesota of Wrestling

Zach Sanders of Wabasha-Kellogg was named MWCA Mr. Minnesota of Wrestling at the Dave Bartelma Hall of Fame Banquet held at Augsburg College on April 28, 2007.

The Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association annually presents the Mr. Minnesota High School Wrestler award to the senior that best exemplifies the highest ideals of high school wrestling in Minnesota. Judging is based on past performances, citizenship, academics, leadership, and adherence to MSHSL rules.

Sanders is a five-time state champion with a career record of 223-5. He won the Class A 119 pound title this year, the 112-pound title as a junior and as a sophomore, and the 103-pound title as a freshman and as an eighth-grader. He ended his high school career with three undefeated seasons.
