St. Cloud State’s Clint Poster named National Wrestler of the Week

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The second National Wrestler of the Week award presented some tough choices, and ultimately two wrestlers stood out. This week’s winners are St. Cloud State’s Clint Poster Findlay’s Nick Goebel .

Poster also earned NSIC Wrestler of the Week honors after winning first place honors in the 157 lbs. bracket at the 2014 Harold Nichols Open at Iowa State University on Nov. 8 in Ames, Iowa. Continue reading

Pack Named Initial Western Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week

OREM, Utah — South Dakota State Senior Cody Pack has been named the Western Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week, as announced by conference officials Tuesday afternoon.

Pack went 4-0 at the 22nd Annual Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open on Sunday. The two-time NCAA qualifier recorded two tech. falls en route to his first Dak Open title after losing in the championship bout the previous two seasons. Continue reading

Schiller Receives Big Ten Weekly Honor

Victory over top-ranked opponent earns Schiller a share of the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week Award

The Big Ten today announced that Gopher Wrestling’s Scott Schiller earned Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Week honors. For Schiller, a two-time All-American who began his redshirt senior season last weekend, this is his third career Wrestler of the Week award from the Big Ten conference.

Schiller earned the honor with an exciting comeback victory against then-No. 1 J’Den Cox of Missouri when the two faced off in the 197 bout at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic in Philadelphia. After Cox built a 3-0 lead early in the second period, Schiller rallied to tie the score at three before winning the match 5-3 in sudden victory overtime by successfully executing his second single-leg takedown of the match. Russell named USA Wrestling Greco-Roman Coach of the Year

Joe Russell, former University of Minnesota wrestler who’s now head coach at George Mason University, has been named 2013 USA Wrestling Greco-Roman Coach of the Year, the nation’s governing body for the sport announced Saturday.

In addition to heading up the GMU Patriot wrestling program, Russell served as a coach of the 2013 Cadet World Team, which finished 13th in the World with two bronze medalists, Cade Olivas and Jon Jay Chavez. They were the first two FILA Cadet Greco-Roman medals won by the United States since the FILA Cadet World Championships were revived by FILA, the international federation of wrestling, in 2011.
